Visuality Deliver M-vision to Morrisons

Visuality has completed a ground-breaking project to fit CCTV cameras throughout two 40,000 square foot Morrisons stores as part of a major research exercise to understand the impact of changes to store layout, product range and in-store communication on customer behavior.

Whilst in-store filming has been used at category level for many years, it is believed that this is the first time this technology has been scaled up to monitor a total store of this size and complexity – let alone two.

As Tony Nunan, MD explains, the challenges faced by Visuality’s shopper insight team have been significant:
“We deployed some 240 cameras across the two sites, each of which were recording up to 90 hours per week, capturing priceless data on customer movement and behavior. The data storage facility needed just to capture this volume of digital information is immense and the price of this aspect of the project alone would have been prohibitive at normal market rates. To get around this, we built our own storage from scratch. We’ve also created unique software to enable us to manipulate this information and create reports.”
